what’s not so glamerous is the fact that i’m stuck on the couch with one of my typical tummy aches. it has come to my attention that my life long stomach problems might be a gluten or dairy allergy. as a vegetarian, i already feel super limited with food options and cutting either out of my diet seems really scary. i suppose it’s just something that would take getting used to, especially if ditching my usual eating habits would make me feel healthy. are any of you unable to eat gluten or perhaps have celiac disease? any tips would be super helpful!
on a fashionable note, i found my new favourite local shopping spot and i’m so excited about it. been searching high and low for a place with unique pieces at reasonable prices. as much as h&m and forever21 can be good for that, i don’t always want pieces that everyone else has. and i hate to be a tease but i’m definitely keeping it a secret. sometimes a girl needs a little mystery! really hope you are all having an amazing weekend xo
amazing outfit! you look so lovely!

Haha, my office totally looks down over one of those spots you're in! I've heard cutting gluten and dairy out can really help with stomach aches… there is a great gluten-free grocery store at 12th and Arbutus that you should check out.

Thanks girl, will have to check it out ๐
sorry to hear about your tummy troubles! i went through the same thing and i definitely limit both my gluten and dairy intake. however, gluten is ridiculously hard because it is sneaked into so many things! ๐ personally if i have too much bread or gluten/dough heavy things i feel heavy, lethargic, etc, and too much dairy leaves my stomach screaming at me for at least another three days. try experimenting and limiting your gluten/dairy consumption for a few days and see how you feel!
Thanks Holly! Yeah, I think I'll start by cutting out just gluten and see if it helps. I'll try to limit dairy, but cutting out all of the above seems extreme! Thanks again for the advice ๐
Hi Alicia, love your blog! You always look so lovely! So sorry to hear about your tummy troubles. I also have struggled with tummy aches and much more for about 11 years and have gone through countless tests and diets, trying to figure out how to feel better. If you think it's a food allergy, the best way to test this is an elimination diet where you eliminate one food type at a time (eg. dairy) for two weeks and then reintroduce the food slowly over the course of about 3 days, progressively increasing the quantity, and record your results. This should allow you to compare how you're feeling and identify any patterns in what food is triggering your symptoms. And two weeks is a fairly manageable time frame to go without something you love! If you want more specifics, I'm happy to help and can send you a private email. Hope you feel better soon ๐
Hi Hayley, would love to chat more about this! What is your email address? Would be great to connect with someone who has similar problems ๐
Just sent you an email, so you should have my address now ๐
Sorry to hear about food/tummy woes! I am wondering a similar thing – different symptoms but I wonder if wheat might be part of the problem. But trying not to eat any wheat is really hard!! I'm vegetarian too and totally understand the feeling of being limited! I don't usually feel that way, but looking at eliminating another popular ingredient from my diet is daunting. At least wheat/gluten problems, and veganism, are all becoming more common and there are therefor more products out there in the market for these different diets!
Good luck!
At home it's not an issue, but it's more about going out to restaurants and such. I don't want to be that friend who orders a water and side salad everywhere I go. Although, I'm sure that would be a great diet ๐ haha At least Vancouver has become more and more gluten free friendly! Thanks girlie!
PS Love the Matt & Nat clutch – been lusting after the purse version at a local shop lately but I'm sooo broke.
You look glam as always! In LOVE with your skirt… It's perfection!
Hope you feel better!
Eeks, stomach problems aren't good. As scary as cutting out dairy or gluten may be, think about how much your health could improve. Neither are detrimental to your health if removed provided you balance your diet and take supplements. You'd be healthier and living ethically!
Lovely outfit! I'm sorry to hear about your stomach problems. Great blog! ๐

that clutch!!! I love how it combines with your cardi/jacket, or the other way around
Local boutique that you just discovered that you won't divulge the name of??? I don't know whether to be disappointed in you or think you're brilliant ;0 Love that Matt & Nat clutch – it's the perfect edgy piece to compliment your girlie ensemble. Hope you feel better soon, we have two crazy weeks ahead of us ๐
xox,
Cee
I like to think it's brilliance ๐
Have you ever tried tofu as a substitute to calcium and protein intake?
I do eat tofu quite a bit, and looking into using quinoa as a replacement. Someone told me they made a chocolate cake using quinoa instead of flour! Thanks so much for the suggestion ๐
Great outfit…. and looks like you nabbed a nice day here in Vancouver. Not so much these days ๐
Pop on over to Little Miss Mama if you'd like. I promise Tea I always served with a side of Fashion AND the cupcakes have a perfect Cake to Icing ratio.

Oh what a lovely outfit! So unabashedly feminine, how refreshing to see. I love the print on the mat and nat clutch, almost tribal but it works well with your whole ensemble. Great post!

I am having similar digestion issues! I too am a vegetarian, but i am leaning towards dairy being my issue. Pretty crazy how both dairy and gluten allergies seem to be on the rise… I feel helpless because i want instant results, but the only thing to do is trial and error ๐ If you think you may be celiac, they will do a biopsy to figure it out. I am going dairy free as of tomorrow, so wish me luck! and i wish you the best of luck too!!
Looking lovely, time to feel the same way

You look amazing my dear. Always good to have a little mystery since there isn't usually a lot of it in the blogging realm. You look so sophisticated. Love that clutch.
Gorgeous look! So feminine!

I like the look of the mustard yellow cardigan paired with the colourful clutch, and that skirt is really adorable.
I took a hiatus from shopping at those same places for that reason. It is awalays fun adventurously shopping but I always know I have those places for back up for my essentials.
Hope you get better soon. xo
Oh WOW – that skirt is absolutely amazing! You look so pretty – and I'm loving that clutch as well ๐ I actually have a gluten allergy – and I was pretty devastated in the beginning – I LOVE bread, and sweets, and beer – but you definitely get used to it. The gluten free breads are not so bad, and I've come to like them. And most restaurants definitely know about gluten allergies – so that helps when eating out. If you have questions feel free to email me ๐

Heyy Alicia..
Super cute outfit! I have the same tummy troubles as you! And only in the last 6 or 7 years too. Have you tried being tested for lactose or wheat? It would help keeping a diary of what you eat and write down if you start to feel sick or not. May help eliminate certain things.
I'm Spanish(next to France)and I love your blog! =)
(Sorry I donยดt speak English =S)
As a Vancouverite I would love to know the name of the shop… let us in on your secret! xx
I hope you feel better sweetie…
I love this outfit, the purse is the best and your hair always looks so so dreamy ๐

Oh no! I was just going to ask you about this new found store! ๐ I love that skirt you're wearing and I've been looking for a shape and length like that for aaages. Can I bribe you with a delicious cocktail perhaps? Or some yummy Dutch chocolate or cookies? ๐
Anyway, I think this outfit is absolutely great! I love the mustard color with the white and black. It's such a pretty color that will make an outfit pop without being too "out there".
Hope you're feeling better now, lady! Allergies suck.

Looking gorgeous as usual! Ahh, I am dying to know your secret little shop! I've been feeling the same way about H&M, Forever 21 and Zara lately. So much I love, but it's hard to love something when everyone has it. I guess I'll just have to style items in a unique way!
P.S. Very excited to attend your blogger sale!

I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease last year. It's a really simple process, you just have to eat lots of bread, pasta and gluten-filled goodness and ask your doctor to do a quick blood test that will determine if you have an allergy to gluten. From there, they can see if its a simple allergy or do more tests to figure out if it's CD. Most people with CD can develop an allergy to dairy as well. Good luck, hope you can still eat all of the gluten-filled wonders (I miss them haha!).
