Chinatown had a lot of meaning to my dad’s cousin Jason, as his parents used to work in Chinatown when they first arrived in San Francisco from China. We visited the alley where his mom used to work in a fortune cookie factory, and went in to a different fortune cookie factory to purchase some. We also visited one of the oldest temples in Chinatown, where his mom used to go to pray. Chinatown was so alive with people and bright with colour, I really enjoyed it!
They say it’s good luck, but I’m pretty convinced it just sucks getting bird poo in your hair….
Right on the border of Chinatown, you come across these markings on the light posts. The area is called North Beach, and is obviously the Italian area of San Francisco. It’s full of cafe’s, Italian restaurants, cathedrals, and basically all that you would expect from a “little Italy”. We grabbed coffees in North Beach, and Adam and I actually went back there later that night for a romantic Italian dinner for two!
After our day of classic tourist fun, we went to Macy’s and bought a bunch of work shirts and ties for Adam. Macy’s is so big in Union Square that the men’s and women’s sections are separated by BUILDINGS!! Insanity…pure insanity!
One more post about SF and then I’m done with it. And we got word that none of my family there was injured in that terrible explosion, although it was very close to Nelson’s mom and his son. Absolutely terrifying, my thoughts and prayers are with those who were affected.
woot! I got the door unlocked!! Stupid door grrr.
Anyways! Love these pics. I totally thought of all the family you just visited when I heard about the explosion on the news so i'm glad to hear that no one was hurt. It's still so sad though that people were hurt at all 🙁
I can't wait to see your third San Fran post missy!
xo
I'm going to San Francisco in less than a month for me and hubby's one-year anniversary trip and I've loved reading your posts so far! We've been 4 or 5 times now so I feel like I could use some new ideas of what to do in the city.
When we were there on our honeymoon I was really craving BBQ and urban spoon suggested a place in a really scary neighborhood. Like hide your kids, hide your wife and hide your husband scary.
Q looks a lot nicer and I can't wait to try it! I'm so glad you posted about it. 🙂
Oh wow, it looks like you had a fantastic time in San Fran Alicia! I'm really enjoying your photos and recap–they remind me of when I was there last summer. SF's Chinatown is so much more vibrant than the Chinatown here, isn't it?
Melissa – thanks darling!
Haven – So glad I can help out with ideas for you and your man! Q definitely wasn't in the hood, or I at least wasn't scared for my life 😉
Lisa – Thank you so much! Yeah I even commented on how our Chinatown here in Vancouver seems to be shrinking in size. I really think it's because of the large Asian population in Richmond now. SF Chinatown was very cool!
Aw, San Fran looks beautiful! I'd love to go someday! & nice tee! I am going to see hot hot heat next month!
yay more SF pics, it's almost as if i was there too! vicarious vacations, you would be awesome at that if there was a business for it haha
great chinatown photos! that's the one part of SF that i haven't been to yet but i hear such great things about it and your photos make me want to go there even more. there's one famous bakery there that makes the best egg tarts EVER. they're huge too, but just so good. i want one now 🙁
and yeah you did accomplish a lot in ONE day! crazy! love all the family photos, sucks about the bird poo. when i was in cabo, i got crapped on by a bird TWICE. but the first time only hit my bag (well, my mom's bag that i was using haha) and the second time was on my left shoulder.. ick (although, i can attest to the 'good luck' aspect because after the first time i got hit, i found pesos on the ground!)
I do like your post
xoxo
