The intimidating thing about this spring is all the extreme shift in trends. Suddenly my denim is being replaced by trousers, skirt hems are longer, and my policy on matching colours and prints is a thing of the past. It’s out with the old and in with the confused new, but I really kind of like it. Change can be good.
Easing into mixing colours has been fun, but it was time to move onto prints. In order to make this process less shocking, I decided to pair two prints that are in the same colour story. A black and off white striped cardigan, and a black and off white seagull print blouse.
I’ve seen so many great print combinations. I can’t wait to experiment with florals as well. What prints have you mixed? Any method to your madness?
Love it!

SwearI'll follow your advices, cause everytime that I've tried the whole mix and match thing I end up wearing jeans and a white tee, starting with same color palette sounds so logic, why didn't I tried it? Great post!

You're adorable.
I've never mixed prints before this year, either. I like that you outlined how to do the most basic pattern-mixing. It's less intimidating to start out that way.
For me, the easiest to mix are stripes– it goes with anything! Then polka dots, too. Anything that has patterns that are small enough to look like a big solid color from afar is also a great way to ease into it.
Love your top!
I was wearing a floral maxi dress in San Diego and got cold, so I threw on an open front striped cardigan. It didn't end up looking too shabby! Not something I would have done if I didn't get cold, but it looks cute!
There are two outfits on this post that mixed prints! Maybe San Diego inspired me! =) http://allthingspearly.blogspot.com/2011/04/what-happens-in-san-diego-stays-in-san.html
I've always shied away from prints as a rule; the idea of mixing more than one is still incredibly daunting to me 🙂 But you make it looks so easy and wearable in this look- mainly because you've paired two items that are black and white, which are my favourite colours to wear, anyway. Love your hat- it suits you perfectly!

Yay for print mixing! You did a great job!! I'm with you, so far I've only done prints in the same color palate, but hope to experiment with mixing florals & stripes soon. I still feel a little crazy whenever I'm experimenting with them, so they haven't made an appearance yet! Baby steps! Love this outfit on you, and yes, I am quite loving all the big shifts in trends! I feel like I love so much 'new' – midi skirts! orange! espadrilles! Things I've never really liked before. Kind of exciting.
you look so beautiful!!

Lately I'm either in head to toe neutrals or head to toe crazy miss matching prints… I love the striped cardi, it is eactly what I'm looking for considering the sun isn't about to come out any time soon! Oh and the jewelry at Plum right now is stunning, especially the items from Nepal!
I love mixing prints and you did a great job!!
Very cute and subtle! I love mixing brightly colored patterns- if you're going to do it, why not go all out and really shock people 🙂
This looks awesome!
Thanks for the tips 🙂
You are so right, there are so many extreme trend changes right now!
i love print mixing. i treat stripes as a solid most of the time. so much more fun when there is more pattern in an outfit!
Mmmm I definitely want to give this a try. The thought of mixing prints terrifies me but it looks fun, especially for spring/summer.
I love this tutorial! You're totally right, it's all about keeping the colour family the same, either that or layering the same patterns on top of one another. You look stunning as usual woman! Can't wait to see you and the girls again when I am back from my tanning-trip aka Mexico.
