chevron print dress from san fransisco boutique (back in 2010…such an innovator 😛 lol) // olive 3/4 sleeve trench from plum // joe fresh wedge sandals (old) // kate spade windsor square angeline in grey // glass bead chocker necklace c/o jacob // barefoot contessa sunnies // ring from h&m
if you follow me on instagram, you saw what a struggle my very first attempt at a sock bun was. not so easy when you have abnormally thick, layered mufasa hair! after almost seven tries, a couple bobby pins, and some very tired arms, i finally achieved a decent looking bun. and it’s kind of fun to tell people that there’s an actual sock in your bun. great conversation starter!
i am loooving the week of sunshine we experienced this week! had the chance to take some of my favourite summer dresses out for a spin and switch my closet over. (so if we get a freak snow storm next week, you can blame it on me for packing away my winter coats and sweaters). kind of forgot how much i adore this chevron print dress i picked up in san fran! i have trouble styling it with tights, so i always have to wait for warm weather to wear it.
well, tgif my friends. i’m going to make the most these next couple sunny days with a bbq, beach picnic, and the weeknd this weekend (can’t even tell you how long i’ve been waiting to say that). bring on the rays, vancouver! wishing you all the happiest of weekends 🙂
Oh, how beautiful!
I love your dress! Cute hair bun, fabulous sunglasses!

That dress is amazing!! Love it! And I'd say you totally rocked the sock bun. I have so many layers as well and I just can't get it to work 🙁
Have a great weekend m'dear! I love this look on you and the bun turned out so great!
I experienced "Tired Arm Syndrome" trying to make a sock bun, too. They always fall out about an hour later, so I'm back to a regular bun. Is your hair naturally straight or wavy?
I hope you have a great weekend! I've been reading your blog through Google Reader but I clicked through today. I love your sidebar picture. You are too cute! xo
You look amazing! I'm a newbie to the sock bun too…. sometimes it works and sometimes I end up in a tangle. I think it takes a lot of practice for it to become "easy". Looks great on you though!

your bun came out really pretty, and I love the whole outfit, especially your dress and your purse.

Okay, I need to know the secret – I have failed miserably at the sock bun time and time again, and chalked it up to having very long, very thick hair. But if you can do it, there must be a way for me to do it, too! Besides getting a significant haircut, obviously 🙂
I should also take the time to comment on your dress, which is fabulous. I'm sure it would be great with tights, too, but who wants to wear tights if you don't have to?
xox,
Cee
love love love chevron, and your big "carrie" bun is gorgeous!

The sock bun turned out so well, Alicia! I don't think I have enough hair for one which is sad 🙁 Love the chevron print dress too and soooo happy the weather has been great lately.

I'm so excited about this weekend weather too. I can finally put my boots away and pull out the BBQ 🙂
You look gorgeous, Alicia! Glad your sock bun turned out well, although I was quite a fan of the failed attempt you posted on Instagram 😉

Great job with the sock bun! I've been wanting to try that! And it's funny that you referred to your hair as Mufasa hair because that's what my dad used to say about mine and my sister's hair!! haha. Beautiful look!

Aww I really want this dress and it's from 2010 – boo!! This dress is gorgeous!
And well done with the sock bun! I had a go last year and managed one, but my hair has since been hacked with hundreds of layers so I doubt it would work now!

I love this dress and I can't believe how perfect your sock bun turned out! I haven't been able to perfect it yet, but I refuse to give up!
I hope you had a good weekend in the sun! I feel like a whole new person after those 2 days 🙂

Trust me, what's even worse than having thick hair and trying to do a sock bun is having next to no hair (aka my weirdly fine hair) and having it just knot up in sparse clumps each time! At any rate, yours turned out so beautifully and I am loving this ladylike look – I feel like you've been nailing the femme silhouettes lately! Miss you girl 🙂
Alex xoxo
Love this chevron dress and how you styled it, so gorgeous! And that bun, i've had some major difficulty trying to get mine perfect, it definitely takes practice! It turned out great!

Beautiful dress & your hair looks lovely! I'm always in awe of people who can easily recreate hairstyles like this. I'm terrible at it, which is probably why I got my hair chopped off a few years ago! 🙂
Gorgeous dress! Such a ladylike outfit. And congrats on mastering the sock bun! I struggle so much to do them too – though my hair is much shorter and loves to stick out all the wrong ways when I do it 🙂
