thinking about it, i’ve had some pretty horrific hair days in my time. who could forget the 1980’s bangs that my mother used to curl with a 1/2 inch barrel and then tease?! she claims it was “in” at the time…i call it borderline child abuse. there was the magicuts incident of ’97, when my request for a regular trim turned into a very unfortunate chin length bob. it really didn’t compliment my chubby face, lime green velvet top, and first pair of black flares.
then of course (when i should have known better) there was the mexico trip at 16 when i forgot to pack my hair straightener. picture monica in the friends episodes when they go to barbados and that was pretty much it. and then in a moment of time that i like to pretend never happened, i decided to get the mexican corn row braids to counter-act the frizzy afro. which, as you can imagine, only made things much worse and truthfully, they really hurt!
lately, my hair story has been either parted in the middle and curled, or an oversized bun and i’m very okay with that. compared to styles in the past, i think there was only room for improvement.
what are some hair moments you like to pretend never happened to you?
HAHAHAH!!!
Your title actually made me laugh out loud. I love that Sir Mix A Lot song – I know it's totally sexist…but it's hilarious!!! You look great!

Cute outfit Alicia! I used to have bangs… and I have naturally curly hair with about 15 cowlicks along the hairline. Flatironed, they were ok. If one bit of humidity hit and they started to frizz… it was very bad. No more bangs for me.

Neon green velvet tops.. I remember those days. I think my worst hairstyles were later on in 98/99 grade 9, when I decided I wanted my hair to look like the reverse angle Robyn bob, but not as long and the hairdresser gave me an almost pixie like bob – and then I had to go school.. and walked through the halls, and I remember people misthinking me for a boy from the back because of my hair 🙁 Another horrible time was when I used to lifeguard and my friend decided to bleach my hair Billy Idol white.. however, I didnt know to stay away from chlorine and had green tinted hair for a week in grade 10 🙁
I love that tulle skirt its adorable! Since I have thick curly wonky hair, ive had some terrible bob and short haircuts in general…and I never want to return to that hair phase in my life lol

I love your skirt. I walked by Plum on S. Granville a couple of days ago and had to force myself not to go in. I'm freezing my assets for as long as I can 🙁
Hair moment(s) in one word: perms! Never again.
Have a great weekend Alicia. Fingers crossed for lots of sun.

Love your glasses and your skirt! Cute blog. Following you..

oh there are so many…
The first happened around age 8 when my great aunt decided to trim my bangs. I ended up with about 1/4 inch long bangs.
And then the dreaded mushroom cut on the late 90s (basically a bob with bits longer hair at the bottom).
Oh and then the perm I stupidly got at a HS senior. It looked like a mangy poodle.
Haha I love this so much! Half forehead bangs are sooo bad, I bet your aunt felt terrible (please dont tell me she thought they were okay?!)
And so many people are there with you on the mushroom cut and the poodle perm. We've all been fooled by perms before, so funny.
Thanks for sharing 🙂 xo
that's pretty much how i wear my hair daily… which is just lazy but it also happens to be terribly cute – just as it looks on you! x

Oh jeez. I have a ton, but the worst? Crunchy Curls…..
I love rocking a bun–easy and put together 🙂

I TOTALLY did the crunchy curls too! Major regret lol
Most of my life = a hair moment I pretend never happened. My hair was, in a word, triangular. Thank goodness for the ocean and humidity, it's now sort of manageable. But only if I keep it absurdly long. And I still had a cut a hair elastic out of it this morning. Yes, this is my definition of manageable. Sad, isn't it 😉
I love your skirt. It looks like a tutu and it's purple. That's pretty much all I need in life. Well, in skirt life.
xox,
Cee
i love this outfit – especially that pretty skirt! your bun makes me so jealous. i donated 12" of my hair to locks of love back in january and i'm about to die waiting for it to drow back so i can put it in a messy bun again!
I love this look! The bun is super cute and the skirt is lovely!
Love this outfit – you look phenomenal !

The one thing I miss about long hair is the bun!!
I love the muted greys and purple in this outfit! Your hair always looks gorgeous – it's hard to imagine you with a fro!
Thanks Megan :)!
I think your oversized bun looks great, as does your curled hair parted down the middle. I had a perm when I was 10, which was awful. My hair warped into the shape of a triangle and my bangs were poofy like a poodle! BTW, I tried a sock bun for the first time last week and it was damn hard!

I always have major hair envy of you, Alicia. Your current hair styles are ones I so wish I could wear but my lack of volume/fine hair makes it impossible. Sadness 🙁
xo, alison*elle
oh man, i can definitely agree with the teasing… but crimping and teasing together is not good…trust me
Hahaha funny hair stories! I'm loving how you're wearing it recently – the curls are gorgeous. My worst hair moment was probably when I cut my own fringe a few years ago. Don't do it people – fringes are harder to cut than they look! 🙂
Life Etc
I've had hair issues my whole life. Let's just say, don't let your friend cut your bangs in 8th grade. Ever. haha

I end up throwing my hair in a pony tail most days because it takes for-freaking-ever to straighten, and if I leave it down, it's very frizzy.
There was the one time when I was 16 and decided to perm my hair… I looked like Shakira..
And everytime I get bangs I regret it because I have a cowlick in the front. Booo.
BAHAHA I am dying over here picturing you with Shakira hair!
beautiful 😉
Haha I love bad hair stories from years ago!
For my wedding I got a perm, that's more than a year ago and my hair is still dead and looks like %?@#*&! But I hope I can laugh about it in two maybe three years 😉
I am probably dating myself, but I had an asymmetrical bob a la Salt 'n Pepa.
With a duck tail.
That was dyed blonde.
By the way, I see that your sunglasses are from Barefoot Contessa. Do you have a contact number, e-mail, or website for them.
You might win for best hair horror story!!! LOL
You can reach Barefoot Contessa by their website 🙂 http://www.thebarefootcontessa.com/ Hope that helps xo
I neeeeed this skirt you're wearing. SO cute.

I love the skirt you're wearing. It reminds me of Carrie in Sex and the City! AND I love your bun! I just recently discovered the sock bun, so now I can take part in bun-wearing greatness too, because I am so horrible at doing my hair that I was never able to do a bun before. So basically, great job on your bun! 🙂

Seriously?!?! Where do you come up with these Post Titles… they are fantastic! Well you had me intrigued – that is the point in't it. GREAT OUTFIT as always.

You look gorgeous here! Love your "big buns"
Melissa
So chic, as always my dear! I think the worst for me was the extremely high curled pigtails that I thought were fabulous. Sometimes, on adventurous days, I would roll them into buns and then it was downhill Princess Leia from there.
Hope you had a lovely weekend 🙂
