Hosting Brunch On A Budget

The idea of hosting a brunch (or lunch, or dinner) can be a bit much.  In the day and age of Pinterest, I kind of feel like I can’t have people over unless I’ve made an ombre cake, spent hundreds of dollars on floral crowns, and had a professional calligrapher write everyone’s names on place cards.  This is why Alexandra from To Vogue Or Bust and I decided to pull together a brunch on her patio that didn’t break the bank or cause an exorbitant amount of stress.  We had to see if it could be done!

Photographed by the talented Britney Gill and Makeup by Katie Elwood (who also joined us in the photos because she’s awesome like that).  Read on to find out how we pulled it off!

Something like pancakes are perfect because you can make a whole bunch and keep them warm in the oven.  People can add their own toppings, which let’s face it, we ALL love doing!  Alexandra made these pancakes and we offered up banana, walnuts, dark chocolate, blueberries, and maple syrup to go with them.  They are always such a hit!

Instead of paper goods, utilize chalkboards when possible!  I already had this gold framed chalkboard in our kitchen, so we just moved it and wrote the menu on it.  The chalk labels on the mason jars were just an inexpensive find at Michael’s and real pulled the Mimosa Bar together.

This has to be one of the most bank account friendly ways to make a centre piece.  We used oranges, lemons, and limes for a citrus colour scheme in the middle of our table.  They added much needed brightness and we all took some home to use in our kitchens.  It feels so great to be able to re-use decor instead of throwing it away!
