Christmas time has always been a bit of a juggling act for us. In fact, out of our 9 years together, we have NEVER spent Christmas Day together. It’s tough combining families and traditions into just a couple of days, you know? Last year we tried to squeeze everything in and ended up spending our first December 25th as a married couple at separate dinners. We met up back at home late that night, I looked at Adam, and declared that this was not to happen again.
This year, not only are we finally establishing our own holiday traditions as a couple, but with the addition of Reggie, it really feels like the first Christmas as a little family. We picked out a night, as close to the 25th as possible, and gave ourselves the wonderful gift of a cozy night in!
We made sure to wrap all the gifts a few nights ago so that we weren’t stressing everything under the tree. And, most importantly, we closed laptops and put our phones aside (unplugging from mobile technology is essential). We each got to pick our favourite Holiday movie, mine being Elf and his being Home Alone, and got into some cozy loungewear.
I stocked up on our favourite snack, Miss Vickie’s kettle cooked potato chips, in my go-to Sour Cream and Caramelized Onion flavour and his, the Applewood Smoked BBQ. Now that I’ve officially converted to a red wine drinker, we enjoyed a lovely bottle of Woodbridge Cab Sauv. Such a full flavoured but easy sipping red wine! We genuinely always have a few bottles of Woodbridge on our wine rack.
It also occurred to me, mid-hangout, that this would make THE cutest Christmas gift. If you put together a box with some chips, a bottle of wine, a movie, maybe a candle or blanket. Wouldn’t that be adorable? If any of you are looking for some last minute gift ideas, there you go 😉 Such a nice alternative to the lonely wrapped DVD, wouldn’t you say?!
A big thank you to Miss Vickie’s and Woodbridge Wine for inspiring us to enjoy a relaxing night in as a family. Though I can’t stop quoting Elf, we are feeling more relaxed and ready for the holiday chaos to continue!
