Harsh Realities

I haven’t been hanging out here much, which I know seems strange because I’m now doing this full time, but I’d like to think that if I were working a traditional office job, I’d still be taking a few personal days to try and sort all of this craziness out, slash how impressed are you with my ability to open up a blog post with one, super long run-on sentence?  I mean, that is just pure writing talent!

As I’m sure some of you saw on snapchat (a_fashionista, btw) Adam and I came back from vacation to a very harsh reality.  All of our good news re: the flood part two had disappeared the moment we stepped foot back into our apartment.  They’d originally told us that we’d likely be able to stay in our place after our trip and that the work would take 10-14 days total.  Then we got news that our floors are on back order until May, so we now have to reno the entire place.  The wall is still open and no work as been done at all because no one could coordinate to get a darn plumber in the building.  With these ridiculously slow groups, we’re now looking at almost 2 months of work since the original leak.  They also packed away everything that was in our living room, dining room, and kitchen without consent.  The fridge was in the dinner room, the stove was in our living room, and our high spirits were back on the beach in the Dominican Republic.  We essentially came home to a construction site, complete with plastic wrapping, painters tape, and plenty of dust.  With a new 4-6 week estimate, Adam and I were forced, once again, to move out of our place for the next chunk of time.

And look, going through a flood again really sucks.  I don’t know how else to put it.  It’s a complete drag.  I feel stronger this time around, but there are still moments where I can’t help but break down and cry out of frustration because I just want to scream at the universe and ask WHY IS THIS HAPPENING TO US AGAIN.  Big picture, this will all be over soon.  I just keep trying to catch those tiny slivers of light amongst the darker moments.  As I mentioned on Instagram yesterday, most of the time we just have to break into laughter.  Because two major floods in one year is ridiculous.

So, I write to you from our new, stuck in 1994, abode in downtown Vancouver.  I have to go back to our real home today to finish packing the rest of our bedroom and front closet.  I also have decided to gain a bit of control back and organize/purge the remainder of the bedroom/my closet (I feel a clothing sale coming on, don’t you?!).  I’ve decided that I’m going to project manage the crap out of those crews and show up every day and be really annoying and rapid fire questions about who sent them and what they’ve completed recently.  I’m also going to do the changes to our apartment decor that I was already working on before this happened because that’s why only way I can put a fun spin on things.  Expect some shocking before and after footage and a potential video blog of this experience.

Thanks again for all your messages, we simply could not get through life’s challenges without your support!  You guys are the best xo
