setting my own schedule as a freelancer has proved to be quite interesting. as do many things in life, it has its ups and downs. sometimes i work too much, never taking breaks or eating meals. i find myself jealous every once in a while when i see people who work 9-5 and can just “turn work off” as soon as they’re home. home is where i work, so it’s kind of like i don’t have an off switch! there are, of course, many perks to working as i please. i can meet a friend, client, or network at pretty much any hour of the day. i can go shopping, to events, i can complete fun side projects. i can even blog more 😉
sometimes if i pop into a shop in the middle of the day, the sales person will ask if i have the day off. since i apparently feel it necessary to tell them my life story, i explain that i work from home. most people’s reaction seems to be that if they worked from home, they’d never get out of their pj’s. i have a rule, you see (albeit a flexible rule, since i’m the one to make them and the only one to record whether or not i stick to them) that i MUST be out of my pajamas by 11 am latest. i absolutely could not survive if i stayed in my sleepwear all day. one woman the other day looked at me in disbelief and exclaimed, “i certainly wouldn’t look as nice as you do if i worked form home”. that, my friends, is a big compliment.
whether it’s catching up with a pal over coffee, yoga class, a dinner date, client meeting, or to simply sit at my coffee table desk to work, i still get dressed. because if i didn’t change out of my pajamas, i couldn’t work from home either! i’d fall into a chocolate coma and sleep forever. which according to my calculations, wouldn’t be very good for business.
this particular outfit has been my staple errand running attire as of late. nothing cuter than some bright lips and comfy footwear while running (sometimes literally) around the city getting things done!
I do envy you having your own business, lady! I'm always sad when I don't get to go to events because I am still at the office when it starts. BUT I agree, most of the time I don't have to bring any work home with me.
I'd probably be one of those people sitting in my PJs all day (I'm a lazy person), so I applaud you for not just dressing in a "whatever" outfit but pulling together lovely looks as always. This blouse is so fun and I adore your oxfords!

I really like your thoughts on working from home – It is true though, if you dont have a fixed schedule, you really wont get things done.
I love your blouse !

girl, you look great no matter what you wear! I seriously would love a class on "how to curl your hair 101" from you! it always looks so AMAZING! xo
Love this look! I work from home too and get up at 6am every morning to get things started, which is always met with disbelief from anyone who knows! ha ha 🙂
Love, Rachel
I know how you feel. There is no turning off work at all for me too. It does get exhausting. It's part of the discipline, knowing when to just stop.
You look great.

If I worked from home I think I would have the opposite problem and take too long getting ready. If I'm off to work its out the door in half an hour (I'm motivated by a good time crunch) but left to my own devices I can take hours getting ready, a little lipstick here, a little episode of Real House Wives of Vancouver there.
cute blouse and love those oxfords!
seriously love your hair !
You look so pretty! Love your shirt! And your hair, your always always always amazing hair!

Love the outfit.
I'm a little jealous of the freelance thing, but I'll be doing that soon enough this winter. I'd love to not be stuck at work from 8 until 6 each day. The idea of chilling at a coffee shop while working appeals to my mind in a storybook kind of way 😛
Adorable errand outfit! The glasses mean serious business. Where did you get them?! Also, congratulations on Capital Q as well.
I wish I could work from home but alas! Love your outfit (as usual) and am glad your freelance work is going so well!

love your blouse! having my own business is something i feel like i'm working towards, what exactly that business will be is a little bit left to thought, but it makes me excited to think about it! congrats!
Love your outfit and your willpower! I myself, completely fall apart when I get home. But I am a strict believer in pulling oneself together for errand running. A bold lip always does the trick!
love it!!

You are so right – we do look that much cuter because so many people wear their lululemons everywhere 😉 Speaking of cute, hello white crochet oxfords! How adorable. I think I may need to stay far away from Topshop. I don't lack the willpower to get dressed if I don't have to leave the house, so I definitely won't be able to not buy a pair of those 🙂
xox,

I want these oxfords for summer! I really admire your getting-dressed-and-carpe diem ethic. I've been trying to do that lately and I definitely feel the energy difference between wearing pjs and clothes.

I love these glasses?
Beautiful ! Love that blouse !
Great rule – and I agree. sitting in pjs all day just makes me feel like slovenly sloth and then I start to behave like one!
Sadie xx
This is such a great outfit! And good for you for sticking to that PJ rule, but I can imagine it'd be impossible to do any work otherwise. You'd want to sleep all day long!
Love this outfit and those glasses on you.

It's a good thing that part of your job with being a fashionista is to inspire others with your attitude and outfits (just to name a few things)! Much applause for working at home… and getting out of your pjs by 11am! lol xx
PS – I was stalking your Portland posts as I plan to go with The Beau this summer. Thanks for all the tips, lady!
The shirt and oxfords are so adorable. Love this outfit!
Love the oxfords! It totally understand what you mean about staying in your pj's when working from home. I have done it once or twice. But it totally changes my mood when I change into "public" viewing clothing haha.
