backwards: my cardigan.  taking closet remixing very seriously, i tried to reinvent this cardi by wearing it backwards and tucking it into my favourite j.crew pencil skirt.  it was actually more comfortable than wearing it closed the right way around, as the buttons normally gape at the front.  a definite must try!

backwards: capitalqcreative.com.  almost a year after starting my social media business, i am finally doing a big website launch on monday.  i’ve been so lucky to gain more clients the old fashioned way, but it’s definitely time to be extra legit with a website.  also, a great excuse to order new business cards.  i LOVE getting new moo cards.

backwards: going to new york in august instead of spetember for NYFW.  it kills me a little that i went a month ago and could have been there right now instead, enjoying FNO NYC, the IFB conference, and the BCBG and herve leger shows.  oh well, hopefully i can make it there in the spring instead!

backwards: the fact that my automatic driver’s side car window no longer rolls down.  who’d of thought that i’d be wishing for manual car windows?  it’s especially awkward at drive-thru’s, parkade ticket booths, and when someone walks up to your car to talk to you.  suppose i’ll have to make a trip to the mechanics soon!

anything backwards in your life lately?

just saying my last goodbyes to weekend getaways, picnics in the park, patio drinks, and trips to the beach.  i welcome fall with an open closet, as it’s favourite time of year for shopping and styling.  bring on the layers and crisp autumn days!

okay, i don’t actually have a doctor’s note to give you.  just wanted to say ahhhhh!  this month has been quite an adventure.  i was forced to take an unplanned break from blogging due to a crazy schedule of travel, new client work, and unfortunately sick days.  the only positive thing about being sick though (and let’s not get all worried, i’m totally fine now) is that i always get dolled up as soon as i’m feeling better!  my days in pjs allowed me time to put new outfits together and get excited about something as simple as styling my hair and putting some make up on.
so, thanks for your patience friends.  i look forward to getting back to our regular scheduled programming.  happy long weekend xo

packing for new york was no easy task.  factoring in walking for 10 hours a day, as well as extreme heat and humidity really threw a wrench into my usual outfit planning.  i found myself envying those in new york who were wearing make up in the day, shoes with any sort of heel on them, and layers.  how, i still wonder, does one wear more than the bare minimum in 35 degree weather?  i mean really, even with ac…that is impressive!

but what really stuck with me when it came to new york street style, was how much of it there was.  growing up casual west coast, i’m not accustomed to so many stylish people in one city.  don’t get me wrong, vancouver has come leaps and bounds in the last few years, but we are still a very casual culture.  if i wear heels in the day, a hat, or something deemed as “out there” i get the major stares.  and i don’t think it’s right that i’m the odd man out because i’m not wearing jeans and a tee.  there were so many people in nyc rocking awesome personal style that adam and i left our vacation completely inspired; motivated to stay true to who we are and what we want to wear.  i often succumb to the pressure of fitting into the vancouver scene, but after our travels i say bring on the side eye looks!  i think that there’s something incredibly special about seeing someone with a look that is very true to them.  and we all know that when you look good, you feel good!

how about you?  what’s the street style like in your hometown?

and so we meet again my friends.  is it terribly ironic that i was able to blog more when i was actually on vacation?  funny how that worked out.  was finally able to snap an outfit photo yesterday after completing some work and then enjoying an afternoon in the park.  we played some crib and bocce ball, but our loveliness was cut short when i went through an incredibly painful and dramatic bee incident.  and by incident, i mean i was stung.  yes, on my baby toe whilst sporting my pretty new sandals and losing terribly to adam at bocce.  i’ve never been stung by a bee before, and let me tell you…it hurts!  i now fully understand people’s fear of them, they’re not very friendly.  it also wasn’t the best life decision (not that i’m full of those) to try and squeeze into a slip on shoe afterwards.  all in the name of outfit photos though, of course!
hope you’re in the mood for some vacation photos because i have a ton of those coming your way this week.  stay tuned!

i really wanted to write a great blog post to go with these photos.  something about green.  or maybe about how i’m wearing shorts.  perhaps it would be some sort of a great story to make you laugh.  instead, i’ve sat here staring at the screen for an hour.   i ended up just publishing it without content, but i AM on vacation, so can you really blame me?

hope you’ve had a great weekend, can’t wait to tell you all about nyc!
