{Style Inspiration} J.Crew Holiday

November 13, 2012
JCrew Holiday Inspiration2 copy

For years now, one of my favourite sources of style inspiration has been the J.Crew
catalogues.  Their outfit styling always has me swooning, as they somehow convey
simple, relatable looks that are innovative and on-trend.  Not only am I left wanting
everything from their collection, but I also end up feeling motivated to re-create some
of the looks from existing pieces in my closet.

I am especially loving the J.Crew “Looks We Love: Holiday Style” piece.
It features their must-copy outfits of the season from fashion director and head stylist,
Gayle.  And, based on these outfits, I have a major
girl crush on Gayle and wish she could come sort through my closet and share some
styling tips.  Yup, it’s decided.  Gayle and I should be best friends.

Even though I’d sworn off lattes for a few months forever and ever, the Starbucks
marketing team got me once again and I indulged in my first red cup drink of the season.
My order couldn’t just be a drip coffee either, it HAD to be a fancy calorie filled vanilla
latte.  And, of course, it was heavenly.

We’re finally feeling that winter chill and what better way to celebrate than being
inappropriately dressed for such low temperatures?  I left the winter coat at home and
opted for a cute fur vest instead, which may or may not have been a poor life choice.
Sure, my arms were cold, but that’s nothing a hot Starbucks drink couldn’t fix, right?!

Gastown is such a fun and different neighbourhood to explore.  I’ve been spending my days
doing all the essential research, such as finding the perfect cup of coffee, local must-try
restaurants, and of course, the best places to shop!   I love that you’re likely
to run into someone you know at the next turn and always supplied with a healthy dose of
streetstyle inspiration.  I’m glad it’s highly populated with tourists, because they get to see
a really cool part of Vancouver.  Have you ever been to Gastown?  What’s your favourite thing to do there?

P.S.
Aritzia is still hiring, so what are you waiting for?!

Email our resume to erin@artizia.com and tell them that I sent ya! xo

Sorting through some weekend photos, it’s crazy to think that it was only a few weeks ago that I was eating an ice cream cone in Deep Cove.  Of course I am now clutching an umbrella instead of cold sweets, but that’s okay.  It IS November after all!

Hope you all have an amazing weekend planned.  I for one, will be working and catching up with some friends, which includes a day trip to Victoria on Sunday.  Super excited to get away, even if it’s just for a day.  You know what I mean?  Happy Weekending!

I’ve had to start dressing for an office setting again and it’s a welcomed change.  Not that my printed flannel pajamas aren’t sexy (because they obvs are), but I do enjoy getting out of the house and to a real desk each morning.  Heels are now pretty much out of the question though, since I already have to schlep my giant laptop and “purse” (which is far more like a duffel bag than it is tote bag, if you catch my drift) on the bus.  I was even yelled at the other day by someone on the bus because she felt as though I had too many things taking up too much room.  That’s just part of the joys of public transit people, just one of the joys.

Does anyone else find it difficult to explain how they got
to where they are today?  Whether it’s pertained
to life in general, this blog, or my career, I often struggle to find the words
to describe my journey.  It was just
recently, however, that I was explaining my career path to a new acquaintance,
and she summed it all up for me.  I’m an opportunist.  Yes, I’ve worked very (very) hard to get
here, but the reason I am fortunate enough to be in such a great spot in my
life, my blog, and my career is that I’ve jumped at the right opportunities.

That is why I’m especially excited to have the chance to tell
YOU about a great opportunity.  Aritzia
has personally extended an invite to all you wonderful aliciafashionista.com
fans to join their team.  They are currently
looking for some awesome individuals (like you) to fill some part time and full
time positions for all of their locations, just in time for the holidays!
Holiday hiring_staff and bloggers

My personal experience in the fashion industry began as a
part time sales associate for a local clothing company.  I gained the knowledge I needed at store
level and worked my way up within the company until I landed a sweet gig in
their head office.  If I hadn’t put the
time in and learned the operational side of things, it’s doubtful that I would
have been as successful landing a role in their head office.  That’s why I want to make sure you don’t
brush off this kind of opportunity.  If
you’ve been wanting a change, then consider this your sign.
The time has come to dig up that resume and send it in to erin@aritzia.com.  You’ll be contacted soon after and invited
for an interview at Aritzia’s Vancouver
office.  This is your chance to charm
them and get yourself an awesome new job.  Tell them that Alicia Fashionista sent ya, and let me know how it goes!

I’ve been having one those weeks that is moving so fast, it almost feels like a dream.  Is it actually Friday today, or is the Universe playing some “funny” joke on me?  With a whirlwind of events, meeting, and project, I’ve had many late night and early mornings.  And coffee.  Lots and lots of coffee.

When I laid eyes on this sheer black maxi dress, I knew it had to be mine (and the $25 price tag was a major bonus).  A staple for this season, I was so excited to style it, with a very particular look in mind.  When it arrived however, what I’d envisioned didn’t end up suiting me and I felt slightly discouraged.  I needed to wear this outfit from day  to night and still somehow stay warm in the process.  After trying almost every cardigan and jacket I owned, this chunky grey Kensie sweater caught my eye just as I was contemplating giving up.  With a sweater over top, the dress took on the look of a skirt instead and added just as much of the dramatic effect I was going for.  Don’t you just LOVE when accidental styling happens?  Especially when it means you’re going to get even more wear out of an item than you’d expected!

Do you have any cool styling tips that you’ve remember/discovered lately?  Please, do share!

More print mixing action happening these days and I’m very okay with it.  It’s just such a simple way to get the most out of the contents of your closet.  This is my first fall season without a clothing allowance and my wardrobe is definitely feeling it.  It’s a blessing in disguise though, because it forces me to narrow my wishlist down to the essentials.  There’s also far less (if ever) impulse buying on my part, which means that I actually get wear out of everything I’ve been purchasing.  Just like a normal person shopping.  Is it possible that the addiction is cured?

Also, I spent a few nights this week updating the about and sponsor pages on here.  Give them a read and let me know if you’re interested in partnering on any upcoming campaigns.

Have a wonderful day my darlings!
