My Drugstore Ponytail Hack

November 19, 2017

Always aiming for maximum ponytail volume ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have to say that teaming up with Goody has been so fun!  When we first kicked off our partnership, they sent a box of their products for me to play around with, which was all kinds of amazing.  I have discovered some new go-to accessories and wanted to share a recent favourite with you.  The best part?  You’ll have the opportunity to WIN a Goody Hair package to try out their accessories as well!  More details coming up on my Insta very soon.

Since I don’t wash my Mufasa mane on the daily, quick and easy styles for second (or third, or fourth) day hair are so important.  A ponytail is obviously a classic style, but I was so excited to discover a little Goody accessory that helps take things to the next level.  With the weight of my hair, a ponytail usually falls flat and the elastic slides down with any movement.  This little comb and elastic combo helps keep things secure and gives that fountain effect at the top for mega volume!  Though I have thicker hair, I did try it out on a friend who has thinner locks and it also worked well for her.

Be sure to check out my other favourite Goody accessories in past posts here and here!  There will also be a HUGE Goody Giveaway on my Instagram in the next few days, so keep an eye out for it!

3 Ways To Style A Checked Blazer

October 30, 2017

Checked Blazer + White Tee + Jeans from errands, to the desk, and off to dinner!

I’ve owned this thrifted blazer for years, so you can imagine my delight when it has been deemed ‘in style’ this Autumn!  Mine might have shoulder pads, but it’s as though I’ve saved myself at least $100 for hoarding it away in my closet.  Since I’ve been seeing this kind of jacket everywhere, I thought it would be fun to style it up for three different occasions.  Didn’t do anything too crazy with these looks, just simple swap out pieces.  Wanted to show you some versatility in this check blazer, if you’ve succumb to the pressures of Fall 2017.

I kept the base simple because chances are you have a great pair of skinny jeans and a decent white crew neck tee.  If not, who even are you?  Now, let’s begin.

5 Must Watch Fashion YouTube Channels

October 26, 2017

Youtober for reals.

Though I love getting my fashion fix via Instagram and blogs, I also watch waaaay too much YouTube.  There’s just tons out there on capsule wardrobes, closet organizing, styling, shopping hauls, trends, etc. and I kind of love getting the scoop in video form.  I’m a sucker for VLOGS, an english accent, and cameo appearances by puppies.  Apparently with that trifecta, I’m way more likely to subscribe LOL.  Here’s a list of some current fashion faves, hope you enjoy!

Zoella | Zoella’s Channel

If you aren’t subscribed to Zoe, are you even on YouTube?  Girl has 12 MILLION loyal followers and is an OG British YouTuber.  I adore Zoe for her fun take on the latest trends and her willingness to share her fabulous life through VLOGs.  Her latest fashion centric video, Huge Autumn Clothing Haul and Try On will make you want to buy so many chunky knit sweaters!

Daily Grand | His + Hers Fall Looks with Giveaway!

October 23, 2017

I took Adam on a shopping spree thanks to the NEW Daily Grand and got him to take style photos!

You guys, this is a first for this blog and feels like kind of a big deal.  Being able to feature men’s style has been highly requested over the years, but it took BCLC’s Daily Grand shopping spree contest to really encourage Adam to participate.  And I don’t know about you, but based on how these photos turned out, I’d say he’s a natural!  My spidey senses tell me that we just might have a recurring his + her style series in the making.

The DAILY GRAND Contest is an amazing new national lottery game that offers two really unique top prizes: $1,000 a day for life and $25,000 a year for life.  And when they say ‘for life’, they literally mean for the rest of your life!  They are also giving you the opportunity to WIN $5000 in Metropolis gift cards at the mall on October 28th.  Can you even imagine?  I’d get a new computer and so many pairs of shoes. Get all the info about the event next week riiiight here.

In order to give us a taste of what it’s like to #livegrand, we got to head on over to Metropolis at Metrotown to spend a little gift card ourselves.  It was so much fun to take Adam shopping, he never really buys clothes for himself because, let’s face it, I probably do enough for the both of us.  Keep reading to find out what we each chose AND details on how you could win a gift card yourself!

Fall Office Wear

October 16, 2017

Any excuse to wear trousers!

One element of creative entrepreneurship that I struggle with is the lack of coworkers.  As in, I don’t have any LOL.  I really do miss the motivation of getting dressed up, in a small way, for other people.  The excitement each morning of seeing what everyone else chose to wear that day.  Oh, and the conversation, I miss that too.  Of course, I do still get this every once in a while at meetings, but truthfully, I rarely have any reason to ever sport heels of any kind.  I really do feel lucky that I’m able to follow my dreams and create my schedule, but dammit, sometimes I really just want a good reason to be business casual!  So, I hope you’re cool with it, but I’m pretending that you guys are my coworkers today.  I specifically wore trousers and kitten heels for the occasion!

I’m actually trying to get myself back into tailored trousers as an alternative to my daily denim. I really love how these ones fall away from the leg and are cropped at the ankle. I think I want a similar pair in classic black.  If you’ve seen any good ones around lately, let me know!  I decided to pair these pants with a half tucked short sleeve blouse and then threw a cardi coat on top for warmth.  It has been 6 years since I’ve worked in a real office, but I still remember how temperatures at the desk can vary.

See how I’ve previously styled these mustard trousers in this post.

ASOS Farleigh Mom Jeans

October 6, 2017

I bought jeans online and lived to tell the tale.

Pairs of the Farleigh Mom Jeans have been on my ASOS wishlist for months.  I first saw them on Sydney and they suit her so well, I felt like I might have to have them as well.  Our vast difference is size was a deterrent, but I did some research online and decided to finally put them in the cart and checked the hell out.  We all know I love a good mom jean!

I do like the jeans.  They’re tight in a breathable, but sucks-everything-in kind of way.  They especially hug the behind and lift in all the right places.  The wash is great, the high waist is exactly how I like it and despite my indecisiveness when it came to size (I am anywhere from a 29-31 depending on the denim), the 30×32 seem like the right choice.  The quality is a bit of a disappointment.  At $65, they don’t seem to break the bank, but I was slammed with customs charges on this entire order and basically could have got another pair of jeans for the amount of extra money I paid.  Look at the knees, they’re completely bagged out after just two wears!

Even at that original price, these jeans also arrived with a snag on the back that literally seem like they will inevitably just split on me one day.  Which, is like denim Russian roulette.  I kind of like the slight danger of it all, but don’t actually want to have to deal with the embarrassment that comes along with completely splitting your pants across the derriere.

Updating A Classic Combo

October 3, 2017

Taking a striped tee, denim, and a trench coat into Fall 2017!

Getting a lot of wear out of clothing is more important to me than ever.  I am STILL in the midst of streamlining and cutting down my wardrobe, and let me tell you, this process is incredibly eye opening. I have far too many pieces that shouldn’t have been purchased in the first place.  At this point in my life, I’m finally getting a grasp of what I actually get the most wear out of and coming to terms with the fact that comfort plays a major role in that.

I wanted to create a look with some older timeless pieces and update them with a couple trends.  The starting point was a striped long sleeve t-shirt, skinny jeans, and my classic trench coat.  I always like to rock a trench as much as possible in the spring and autumn, because there’s such a small window of time for it!  Added a matching black cross body bag and my Daniel Wellington watch, but wanted to add a little pop of colour as well.

I’d picked up these orangey-red mules in Bellevue a few weekends ago and am so happy I did!  They’re a great shoe for this seasonal transition and who doesn’t love a good slider?  The ultimate footwear choice for running out the door!  It happened to be raining on and off on this particular day, so I also opted for a hat.  This Baker Boy cap is absolutely my new favourite!  It goes with so much and is a welcome change from my fedoras.  I still love my large brim hats, but it’s great to mix it up!

How do you like to remix your fall staples?  Would love to know in the comments below!  Or not, that’s cool too 😉

First Day Of Fall

September 22, 2017

Ohmygod, fall is, like, my favourite season.

I love this time of year and I legit don’t care how basic that makes me.  At this point in my life, I’m at peace with my basic tendencies.  Not only is this the official kickoff of my favourite season, but it was on this day, 4 years ago, that Adam proposed!  And though Adam planned a simple and lovely proposal, I am a hundred percent sure the fact that it was also the first day of fall was a coincidence.  I mean bless, but there’s no way he planned that out, the universe was just gifting him with that one!

In my autumn spending spree, I found this gorgeous golden brown chunky knit sweater at Aritzia.  It’s really comfortable and I love how the cut of it makes tucking it into jeans an option, which I never really thought I’d have the ability to do.  Miracles can happen, people, you just need the right sweater and mom jeans!  I thought I had dressing for the weather figured out with a warm sweater and cool sandals, but jokes on me because the weather is all over the place and I ended up majorly overheating in this.  I think this outfit would have been a perfect ‘fall transition’ combo if I’d layered a t-shirt underneath.  That way, when the sun came out, I could have ditched the sweater and been a LOT more comfortable!  As Alanis said, you live, you learn.

Happy Friday, you crazy kids!
