Sometimes, true friendship means showing up in unintentionally coordinating outfits. Which brings us to an important poll of the day: What skirt length is your favourite? I still love to rock a maxi skirt (case in point) but am seriously loving the drama that a tea-length skirt can create. Do you prefer a classic above the knee hemline? Or perhaps a mini skirt for your gorgeous gams?! I’ll certainly be rocking one or two of those in this heat over the long weekend.
Either way, skirts are a summer staple and I’d like to thank To Vogue Or Bust and Her Waise Choice for helping make this oh-so-essential question of the day happen. Even if it was by accident 😉 And special thanks to Jaleen for the fun photos. Happy Thursday y’all xo
No need to adjust your computer screen. It’s true – I’m baring my midriff. In public…in daylight. The very last fashion trend in the entire world that I ever thought I’d be able to pull off. I’m here, my friends, to show you that curvy girls can wear crop tops too. And it’s so darn liberating! It’s like na-na na-na boo-boo to a world that’s always told me I can’t show my mid section unless it’s super model flat or has perfectly sculpted abs. Ain’t nobody got time for that! I choose to go ahead and rock the crop top look, now who’s with me?!
This Saturday is one of the highlights of summer in Vancouver, The Deighton Cup. Not to get all Julie Andrews on you, but The Deighton Cup just so happens to combine a few of my favourite things. Dressing up, dressing up in a theme, day drinking, and the possibility of leaving with more money that what you arrived with. What’s not to love about a good ol’ fashioned day at the races?!
We had such a blast last year and I’ve been thinking about outfit ideas ever since. I’ve teamed up with LOFT to bring you a look that’d be perfect for The Deighton Cup this Saturday. A feminine dress with a statement hat/fascinator and lots of accessories. It’s simple, elegant, and I adore that this dress can be worn again. It’s all about investing in versatile pieces for the wardrobe. Looking for more inspiration? Be sure to check out To Vogue Or Bust and Her Waise Choice to see their beautiful Deighton Cup looks!
Sometimes when I’m not feeling very creative, I rifle through the archives for hints of inspiration. I realized in my most recent search, that these photos from our last night in Antibes somehow went unpublished. My hair was a lot shorter (and of course looking at these, I want to chop it off again right now – always happens that way) and my worries were a lot less. It was July first, so my white and red was a nod to the true north strong and free. We were bronzed from our day at the beach and buzzed from our pre-dinner cocktails. The sunset was the most perfect swirl of cotton candy pastels and I was in a fit of giggles (you should see the outtakes for this one lol). This exact juncture didn’t feel so significant at the time, but just breathing in the memory, it was such an innocently happy moment. Makes me want to hop on a plane and jet off to the south of France riiiiight meow.
Whew! What a month July has been so far. I mean, we had TWO weddings on Saturday, as well as all the pre-wedding events leading up to the big day. I’ve been going to tennis lessons twice a week. My dad turned 60 (haiiiii, Wildawg). I’ve still been trying to eat clean. I’m leaving for Vegas next week. And yes, those last two points are related. Work has been so much because I took on a ton of new responsibilities, but we all know that also means doubling the workload. PLUS it’s just friggin summer. This means that sometimes I say screw it and just close my computer to get outside and find the nearest caesar/sangria/margarita/doesn’t really matter. That sunset walks > everything else and that getting a decent tan is a genuine concern. I love this time of year for its high temperatures and high energy. Nothing beats summer in the city!
Just sporting an oh-so-Canadian red and white colour combination today. All in honour of this great country’s birthday. Also to remind you that you too could have this ahhhmazing silk Obakki dress. Just got to hop on over to this post and enter the giveaway!
Surprise! Another day, another giveaway. I’m starting to feel like Oprah giving away all these freebies lately. YOU GET A CAR, YOU GET A CAR, AND YOUUUU GET A CAR*! (*and I hope you realize that by car, I mean you could possibly win an Obakki piece).
If you don’t know them already, Obakki is an amazing local Vancouver company that puts just as much emphasis on fashion as they do on philanthropic work with their Obakki Foundation. I love their effortlessly beautiful, classic styles for the modern working woman like you and I! That’s why I’m soooo excited to give you the chance to WIN a piece of your choice for the online Obakki Collection (value not to exceed $400). This one is open worldwide too – woot! See the details below, and good luck fashionistas xo
This post is in honour of The World Cup. Not really, but we did happen to take these photos on a soccer (football) field. Very Bend It Like Beckham – but like, the scene where they get mini makeovers and go clubbing and Keira Knightley wears that totally late 90’s backless crop top. I love that movie, such a classic. Anyway, another look from the amazing day of styling fun with Front and Company. I never in a million years thought I could wear an a-line lace dress, nevermind one with a dropped hem! It really does come down to trying styles on to learn what is figure flattering. Which isn’t always set in stone, as this really is something that can aadjust with different trends and any change in your body shape. Maybe some people never change clothing sizes (luuuucky), but I’m not one who is blessed with the ability to still be able to fit into my jeans from high school. And yes, I do have a pair of size 28 low waist, no pocket jeans in a bin under my bin that I am determined to one day put on after losing an obscene amount of weight in a short period of time for my very own Miranda-esque moment a la Sex and The City. The pipe dream.
What I’m really here to say is that WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! Go to Front and Company and enter to WIN a $100 gift card so you can go buy this lace dress fo yo self. It’s the very last day to enter this awesome giveaway, so you better act fast!
