Summer Hack: Maxi Skirt

August 1, 2015

I had a few people comment on how cute my skirt was the other day, and I just had to share this little hack with you!  It’s not limited to a skirt either, I do this with midi length and maxi jersey dresses as well.  Just look at the difference in silhouette!  The before is a bit frumpy and quite square for my body shape.  The after really highlights curves, flatters the figure and it’s SO simple that you can achieve the look too.

Though we skipped Coachella this year, I’m really pumped to be heading to Squamish Valley Music Festival next week with Alexandra of To Vogue Or Bust!  Love dressing up in boho chic outfits and enjoying some of my favourite acts perform outdoors, i.e. Of Monsters and Men, Drake, ASAP Rocky (my hip hop heart), Odesza, Alabama Shakes, etc. Alex and I are going authentic hippie and taking a stab at camping at Squamish which will be a bit of an adventure in itself.  Let’s just say that it has been years since I’ve been camping and I’ve certainly never been without an experienced outdoorsy type.  Our snapchats are sure to be hilarious as we try to get through the weekend.  Besides your usual requirements for an overnight stay in the elements, I’ve got an awesome giveaway for all your summer festival needs.  See below for the juicy details!

Petal To The Metal

My God, I love you guys.  I always feel a hint of nervousness (and by hint I mean I question my instincts 1000 times, pace around the room, press publish and hold my breath) every time I publish something really personal like yesterday’s post.  You are all nothing short of amazing and you’ve definitely inspired me to continue sharing these thoughts, questions, and struggles I’m experiencing as they happen.  I’ll try to think of this blog as a nest of trust in a tree of understanding*. Amongst all the smoke and mirrors on social media, I often forget that we’re ALL just kind of stumbling through life!

Party Time, Excellent

July 18, 2015

A party is a GREAT excuse to get all dolled up.  It’s that little bit of motivation to spend extra time on your hair, apply that dramatic winged eyeliner, and rock a sexy pair of high heels.  That is all the easy part.  It’s the outfit that I agonize over!  Take this particular evening for example.  The invitation was from Nordstrom (yes, THE Nordstrom who is coming to Vancouver in September *insert excited squeal here*), which right off the bat tells me it’s going to be a fashion forward evening.  Then, I read that the night is a Pre-Gala, which just so happens to be something I’ve not particularly heard of.  Assuming people wouldn’t be as dressed up as the gala itself, I opted for cocktail party chic.  Oh, and did I mention that the plan was to party hop to a swanky backyard soiree afterward?  The look required for the evening really had to have it all.  No pressure!

That’s Knot Okay

Went for my first dress fitting this morning and I was terrified to say the least.  It’s not just the obvious worry about the gown fitting properly, but it’s also that I’ve spent the last few months gathering all the accessories separately.  Today was the first time I saw it all come together and I’m so happy to report that everything matches!  Not that I ever really doubted my vision 😉  Somehow I’ve gained weight in my bust (I mean, really?!) but I’m hoping to be able to calm that back down before the big day.  Other than that, everything looks and feels great, can’t wait to put it all on again next month!

Fresh White Denim

My usual morning routine consists of an unhealthy song and dance with the snooze button, followed by a mindless scroll of instagram and emails.  This always feels comforting in the moment, but we all know how damaging it can be start off the day with email anxiety!  Sleeping past alarms is nearly impossible in this heat, so I’ve found my regular a.m. activities just won’t cut it.  Today, I took my own advice and tried something a little bit different.  I got up and wanted to…exercise??!  I know, I thought I might be having a small stroke as well, but hopefully not the case.  Since funds aren’t exactly in excess around here and it was too warm to go outside for a run, I did what anyone would.  I turned to good ol’ YouTube on Apple TV and did my own version of ‘hot yoga’ in our living room!  It’s amazing what you can find on the internet these days!  Not only was I doing something great for myself, but I was BASICALLY saving myself $20 by just doing DIY yoga.  The second video I did was part of a 30 day yoga challenge too, which I’m pretty sure it the perfect way to spend my mornings for the next month, as wedding/other stress pile up higher and higher.  High five and namaste to morning yoga!
