I went to a group meeting the other day where we sat down and were asked a ‘Check-In’ question. Something that took me a bit by surprise, as my freelance meetings are usually with one or two others, we aren’t usually structured enough to carry out such an exercise. We all had to share our worst haircut stories, which made for a hilarious ice breaker. Then as things wrapped up, we were asked a ‘Check-Out’ question. We had to state what we were grateful for. I’ve heard and read a lot about the benefits of pinpointing daily gratitude, and it really was a great way to kickstart new and beneficial habits.
If there’s one thing I couldn’t bring myself to do this party season, it was buying a new glitzy holiday dress that I was bound to never re-wear. This Christmas has been particularly casual and short-lived, so purchasing something new just wasn’t an option. Instead, To Vogue Or Bust and I raided our own closets for items we could put a ‘holiday’ spin on. With the help of the AMAZING Christie Graham and Denise Elliott, here’s what we came up with!
The 70’s vibes live on! Flares are in and then they’re out, in, then out again, and just like that, they’re in again. I really didn’t think I’d be wearing flared denim again so soon, but my goodness these Mavi jeans are comfortable. And it really is kind of nice to veer away from the skinny jean for a moment, I didn’t realize how much I missed the flare trend. It makes a simple denim pairing with a polka dot blouse and a blush cross body bag feel somewhat new again. It’s the little things, ya know?
Hooray for Christmas Eve Eve! One of my personal favourite days of the year, I love that hustle and bustle of December 23rd. Minus all the grinches and scrooges, everyone else is joyous and excited for Christmas Day. My own to-do list for today is a lengthy one, as our family celebrations begin tonight. It’s a real balancing act around the holidays when you combine families, I tell ya!
Currently wearing a onesie, siting on the couch, and in complete denial that it’s Monday. Anyone else feeling unusually exhausted right now? Is it this winter solstice business, or just the usual holiday craziness? I’m also slightly trapped at home today because I’m waiting on a very important package to arrive in time for Christmas (fingers crossed). Also, and this might sound extra silly, but I’m growing out my brows and look like an unkept beast from the wild. So, until my much anticipated brow shaping appointment tomorrow morning, I pretty much refuse to show my face to the world. Totally serious! If you’ve gone through this before, you understand the severity of the situation.
You know how it’s kind of a rule of thumb that everything breaks down at once? Well, this is soooo of the time, but everything in my life is overflowing. What does this mean, exactly? Well, the iCloud is over capacity, which with the amount of photos and video that I take, is no surprise to anyone. I also have to spend a bit of time each day deleting things on my computer because my Mac’s startup disc is full. This means, unfortunately, that I can’t back up my phone because the cloud is too full and my computer has no room, which has stalled me from switching my cracked iPhone for my new replacement iPhone. This wasn’t enough for me to feel like a technology hoarder though, so my Gmail has now informed me that I’m over capacity and will need to pay from now on unless I delete, delete, delete! Those ignored SPAM messages sure catch up to ya, don’t they?! Now you know what I’ll be doing for the next few weeks. The great technology purge/backup of 2015! Exciting stuff, AMIRIGHT?!
Working with Christie Graham and Denise Elliott is ALWAYS such a treat. I feel like Alex and I think of ANY excuse to get the chance to work with this dream team (like these 70’s features here and here)! Well, this time around, we decided to tackle an alternative to the holiday party dress. Be sure to read on for more about these achievable holiday looks.
