Off The Shoulder

April 11, 2016

alicia fashionista, vancouver style blog, lovers friends la dress, revolve clothing review, little white dress 2016

We had a glimpse of summer for a split second here and it was honestly everything.  Nothing could have helped lift my spirits during a tough week like warm temperatures and loads of sunshine!  I was even able to expose my shoulders in the stunning white lace Lovers + Friends dress from REVOLVE, which is my new favourite frock.  I’m for sure going to outfit repeat this one at my friend’s wedding in Mexico next month.  That’s right, the dress code for their big day is all white and it’s going to look so beautiful, especially on the beach!

Harsh Realities

April 5, 2016

alicia fashionista, vancouver style blog, canadian lifestyle blogger, gentle fawn spring 2016, curvy outfit ideas

I haven’t been hanging out here much, which I know seems strange because I’m now doing this full time, but I’d like to think that if I were working a traditional office job, I’d still be taking a few personal days to try and sort all of this craziness out, slash how impressed are you with my ability to open up a blog post with one, super long run-on sentence?  I mean, that is just pure writing talent!

As I’m sure some of you saw on snapchat (a_fashionista, btw) Adam and I came back from vacation to a very harsh reality.  All of our good news re: the flood part two had disappeared the moment we stepped foot back into our apartment.  They’d originally told us that we’d likely be able to stay in our place after our trip and that the work would take 10-14 days total.  Then we got news that our floors are on back order until May, so we now have to reno the entire place.  The wall is still open and no work as been done at all because no one could coordinate to get a darn plumber in the building.  With these ridiculously slow groups, we’re now looking at almost 2 months of work since the original leak.  They also packed away everything that was in our living room, dining room, and kitchen without consent.  The fridge was in the dinner room, the stove was in our living room, and our high spirits were back on the beach in the Dominican Republic.  We essentially came home to a construction site, complete with plastic wrapping, painters tape, and plenty of dust.  With a new 4-6 week estimate, Adam and I were forced, once again, to move out of our place for the next chunk of time.

Buckingham Palace

March 29, 2016

bp01We packed as much as we could into our last day in London.  Being the ambitious pair that we are, Alex and I were planning on getting up at 7 am to being the day with our final outfit shoot.  I envisioned twirling in front of Buckingham Palace just after sunrise and before the hoards of tourists arrived. Except that, very typically us, we barely made it out of the hotel before 11 am and arrived to a palace surrounded by hundreds of people.  Our delayed start time meant that we arrived at BP right as the changing of the guards was set to begin.  Not quite the original plan, but we found a quiet little spot with a great view, that I’m sure you will agree worked out just as well.  We were even able to catch the beginning of the festivities before racing back to change and head over to high tea.

I really wasn’t sure how to style my culottes past one basic look.  And when I tried this combo, I didn’t  think that I’d be able to pull off this whole chunky sweater with loose pants that kind of look like a skirt and are hemmed at what I would consider to actually be the least flatter spot on my calves.  But hey, we all surprise ourselves sometimes, right?!

March 19, 2016

AW_1AHelloooooo springtime!  I welcome these cherry blossoms and longer days with open arms.  A fresh season also means a ton of really fun partnerships and campaigns, including this lil’ collab with Robson Street.  If you aren’t from these here parts o’ town, Robson is our major downtown shopping street, chock full of fan favourites like Zara, Aritzia, Forever 21, Club Monaco, Sephora, etc. etc.

I gave my friends over at Robson Street a glimpse at this crazy blogging life that I’ve built.  Hop on over to their blog for more on how Vancouver influences my style, some social media tips, and my thoughts on this career path.  Plus, I’ll be announcing who won the Saje giveaway on Instagram tomorrow!

Flashback

March 15, 2016

cher04Do you all remember The Great Flood of 2015?  I SURE DO!  It was exactly one year ago.  It was hell on earth for us.  After the flood was the 3 months of construction.  Then, came the months of me organizing everything room by room, that the insurance company had put back in the wrong place.  I also had to purge a bunch, since we obviously didn’t get the chance to do that before we’d “moved”.  Oh, then we got married.  Following that, we honeymooned.  Around November, we finally started having friends and family over again.  I’ve spent the first bit of 2016 doing fun little projects around the place and sprucing things up a bit (since we decided we’ll be staying for a few more years because the housing market here is literally impossible).  In fact, I was just finally getting over the great flood of 2015.  It was beginning to be a distant memory.  Something we’d bring up and laugh about.

That’s exactly what happened this Saturday.  We were off to our second visit to CB2 of the week because we’d settled on a new bookshelf to replace the stack of boxes that never got unpacked after the water incident that shall not be named.  I put my hand on top of Adam’s as we crossed Cambie Bridge and looked over at him. “Can you believe it was a year ago that we were living downtown and trying desperately to survive?” Adam smiled, “Wow, it really was a year ago.  We would have walked to the store from our apartment!” He decided.  It was a good thing the shelf was on back order, because…
