November 16, 2012
FULL oxblood2 copy

I recently sat down with Vancouver Makeup Artist Kahlia Adams to find out how
to wear one of this season’s hottest beauty trends: the oxblood lip.

{SPLURGE VS. STEAL}

Nars Velvet Matte lip pencil in Cruella $30 at Sephora

NYX Jumbo lip pencil in 709 Deep Red $5.99 at London Drugs

{HOW-TO APPLY OXBLOOD LIPSTICK}

1.  Make sure to prep your lips by exfoliating before hand.
You can do this by using a scrub or by gently using a toothbrush.

 2.  To ensure the lip colour stays on a long as possible, apply a primer.
Mac makes one specifically for lips.

 3.  Buff concealer over entire lip to to create a neutral canvas for t
he colour to adhere to.
*Feeling like an expert?  Give your lips more of a “pout” by applying a highlight to the cupids bow.

 4.  If you’re confident, skip the lip liner, but if you
need a guideline outline your lips with a burgundy pencil.

5. Start in the centre of the lip and fill lip colour in to the outer corners.

6. To ensure the colour lasts, apply a small amount of invisible powder
with a flat brush until the lip looks totally matte.  This look is suitable
for day or night.

7.  For a little evening glam, apply a clear gloss to the middle of the lower lip.

{Tips From the Pro}

Avoid getting lipstick all over your teeth, Miss Geist styles, with this little trick:
After the lip colour is applied, close your lips around your
index finger and pull it out.  This will remove any excess lipstick
 and (hopefully) prevent any embarrassing situations.

We suggest keeping the rest of your makeup simple.  Clean skin with a bit
of bronzer on the cheeks and eyes, winged eyeliner and mascara.

my very first haul video

October 8, 2010

I was first introduced to Haul videos by the YouTube obessed Kisekae last year. She encouraged me to try one, but I was just so timid about doing it. I looove posing for a camera, but as soon as someone points a video camera in my face I freeze up and don’t know what to do with myself!I compare it to Chandler on Friends when he has to pose for pictures…
But, last night I went shopping with my co-worker and when I got home felt like giving this haul business a try. This was my first attempt, after pretending to talk to the camera for about 10 minutes to calm myself down (really, if someone had seen me they’d think I was crrrazy). My voice sounds a little bit strange, especially when I say “s”, but that’s what I get for using a digital cam to make a video.

Hope you enjoy the video, let me know what you think!

Beauty Secrets Revealed // Noir Lash Lounge

September 29, 2010
Something terrible has been happening to me lately…my eyelashes have been falling out!!! Every single time I wash my face I look down to find 2-4 eyelashes on the facecloth. SO NOT COOL. All I could picture was me eventually losing all my lashes and feeling so naked without them. In order to give my lashes a bit of a break from mascara, I thought I’d try out this lash place that everyone has been raving about on Twitter.

NOIRfinal1

Noir Lash Lounge glues individual eyelashes in between yours to make them look completely natural. You leave with thicker, longer lashes that you don’t have to fuss over. You can choose your lashes to be as realistic or dramatic as you wish, and the girls there are more than willing to help you choose what suits your eyes.

As I was laying there and Crystal was taping my bottom lashes down my eyes started twitching uncontrollably. As someone who cannot touch my eye, put eye drops in, or have anyone else put mascara on me, I started thinking this eyelash business may not have been the best idea. Luckily for me, Crystal was very accommodating and just told me to relax and spoke to me about other things as a distraction. Soon enough the shaking stopped and she was able to put the lashes on no problem!

After having my eyes closed for what felt like maybe 20 minutes, we were finally ready to open my eyes and see the magic. WOW times a hundred! I feel like a celebrity with these lashes on. Waking up and looking like I have makeup on already is an absolute dream come true!

For $72 total (w/taxes) you get a full set of lashes that last for 4-6 weeks. If you have an event coming up or just want to treat yourself I HIGHLY recommend Noir Lash Lounge’s services. And hey, what a great gift idea for your friends, brides to be, Christmas, Birthday, etc.

Thanks again Noir Lash Lounge, I shall be back to see you soon 🙂

big hair in coal harbour

I haven’t had very good luck with hair dressers in my life. When I was in high school I had terrible hair cuts because I felt obligated to get my hair done by a family friend of my boyfriend (at the time). I remember bringing in a picture of Lindsay Lohan with these big gorgeous curls to her for my grad hair style and to my disappointment, left with a half up ringlet curled bun-ish thing. At the same salon I happened to click very well with a younger stylist who convinced me to start putting foil highlights in my hair. She made me feel really good about myself and we got along really well. I was seeing her one afternoon to touch up my blonde roots (yes, I was blonde for a few years) she was complaining to me about her marriage woes…something about her partying 24/7 and her husband not being impressed by that. While I had the foils in my hair, her husband happened to show up with flowers for her and they had a big moment there in the salon. Surprise, surprise, she left my foils in for WAY too long and I came out looking like I had tie-dye hair. When I went back a week later ready to demand she fixed it for free, she had fled to Edmonton and left without notice. I’ve been through 3 other stylists since then, one left her salon and I wasn’t keen on getting my hair dyed at her house, and another who went on maternity leave. I just could never seem to settle on a stylist!

Well my luck has turned around because one of my friends just graduated from hair school and is currently a stylist at Axis salons. Now I realize that I am slightly bias because she is a friend, but she does such an amazing job. I have the most difficult half asian thick hair and hairdressers HATE me for it, but Marlee handles it well and always does cuts that will help me better maintain my mufasa hair. Last night a bunch of the stylists did a “blow-out” class and learned how to blow dry curls, and this is what she magically made my hair do:

If you’re interested in seeing Marlee she’s usually at the W. Pender Axis location, but definitely ask when you call because she has worked in the W. Georgia location as well. She only charges $35 for a cut/blow dry, which trust me, is SUCH a steal!

& if you smell those omens man///i think you better run

April 21, 2010
I just decided to sort through all the papers all over my room (literally all over…in bags, in boxes, on desks, in purses, etc.) to get a head start on this whole packing up my life and moving thing. As I was sorting/reading some Christmas cards, I happened to stumble upon a $50 bill which I laughed about out loud for a good two minutes in disbelief. As I’m still stewing in the glory of finding 50 bucks out of the blue, I opened the next card to find a $20 bill. The lesson here kids, is if you’re as messy as I am with your filing, you may just find $70 in old Christmas cards….it’s true!

I would like to take a moment to introduce you to my new cupcake ring. This little gem caught my eye while shopping with Melissa at Barefoot Contessa on Commercial Drive. The entire line is based on an Alice in Wonderland theme, which was so cute I could barely choose just one! I think the packaging is what lured me in…

We also need to talk about the hair genius that is Miss Marlee. This girl is all “oh hey, why don’t you just come in for a haircut on Sunday?” and then transforms my mufasa mane into the most amazing hair cut/style I’ve ever received.
The best part? It cost me $10.
Yep, if you go to JC Studios in Gastown you can get a cut & style from a student for only $10! They are all so talented, it’s such a steal!

I took my gorgeous new hair out for a spin…err a walk around Gastown and some of the seawall.

Randomly chose Kasabian’s 2004 album as my “city walk soundtrack”…perfection!

Don’t even pretend that you don’t like the ghetto trash bin/abandoned bbq in the background…

Adam and I had some eats and jazz at The Main on Main Street…yum!

Randomly the ‘E’ on my keyboard is stuck today…this is not good. It’s already driving me bonkers! How do I fix?

PS As far as I know, I have 6 people signed up from my post challenging you to become a registered organ donor. I’m so proud of all of you, keep it up peeps and tweeps 🙂
