why does it always seem to be that the less money i have, the more i want to spend?  my fall wishlist is growing and i keep falling victim to that dreaded ‘sale’ word.  funds are depleting, but my closet is begging for more!  honestly, i have filled so many online shopping carts lately, i fear that certain sites will start blocking me from pretending to purchase!

luckily, i have put my credit card away (for now) in anticipation for my birthday and christmas.  although, i did fall weak to a new zara purse and majorly on sale suede urban outfitters boots.  i also couldn’t say no to the latest teambuy.ca deal.  $50 worth of american apparel goodies for only $25.  actually saving money if you really think about it 😛

have you been obsessed with shopping lately?  how do you curb the cravings?

Yes, I have been obsessed, too!
I do what you did often- fill up an online shopping cart then walk away. I also just don't go to stores, because you just end up buying something. I think the shopping desires always amp up at the change of a season…

I love what you have on from head to toe! I dont think we ever have our shopping cravings under control maybe just for a day but I mean how can we pass up such great things on sale!?

    Aaah nice outfit 🙂

I just pretty much stay home when I have shopping cravings. Going in the store means I've given in.

I love the combination of colours in this outfit. Blue blazer, scarf with orange accents, purple skirt. It's unexpected but works beautifully.

As for curbing the shopping craving: it's hard! I don't know about Adam, but it still boggles my boy's mind exactly how much I can shop.

My best trick for not shopping is distracting myself with another activity. If I'm thinking about a new recipe I want to make, dinner plans with friends, my yoga class for the evening, or a movie I want to see, I'm less inclined to shop.

I also remind myself of how many things I buy which end up rarely/never getting worn or being donated eventually, and do a mental tally of how much those things cost and how much money I could have saved by not buying them. When I'm especially tempted by something, this reminder makes me think twice about buying it. It was a great way of limiting my Portland shopping to a very few select pieces!

wauw, That blazer is amazing! x

  • Holly September 29, 2011 at 6:12 pm

ummm, in a simple answer….yes. I've been obsessed with fall fashions this year. But, i can agree that online browsing does help! it's like window shopping, except i'm at home and in my pajamas. waaaaay better!!!

  • Kate September 29, 2011 at 6:15 pm

I love your scarf and booties! Gorg! And YES, I am having the hardest time not shopping, too! There are so many things on my wishlist, and I have found myself buying more than I should be lately – I just find it's that time of year when you need to replace basics (I dropped $40 on tights at winners, for instance) AND add new pretty things, so it ends up adding up to a lot! If only there weren't things like rent, electricity and student loans to pay… ha!

  • Kirstin@CrimsonRosella September 29, 2011 at 6:42 pm

Love the shade of purple and those wedges are amazing!

  • Tiffany September 29, 2011 at 7:01 pm

I know what you mean. I now have a budget each month. I am not spending any more than $100 (in reality $150) on clothing or accessories (footwear included).

It's been a tough battle. I nearly lost it when I got all the sale emails from Jacob, Forever21 (free shipping… yah almost caved and pretend shopping basket shopping… BUT DIDNT. booya) and then the lovely Plum Coupon. Thanks for making it tougher, Alicia.

But suffice to say… i'm doing good. Nothing yet for the past 2 weeks. *fingers crossed

  • Tiffany September 29, 2011 at 7:02 pm

OH btw. I adore the booties. I'm into wedges it seems. crazy.

  • danica September 29, 2011 at 7:33 pm

You look wonderful, Alicia, I am totally in love with the maxi skirt! The little box bag is WAY too cute, and I love the wedges too. I totally know how you feel, I have no money at the moment and there is so much I want! 🙁 … I need space so I am selling stuff on eBay to raise some shopping money. Like recycling 😛 xx

Those booties are amaaaazing. Great buy!

  • Cee September 30, 2011 at 12:48 am

I think the spending thing is just Murhy's Law; the less money you have the more amazing things you find! At least, that's the way it always works for me 😛 But that Zara purse was definitely a need, rather than want 🙂 And those booties are adorable, too- I have wedge booties on my wishlist, too!

Oh shopping. It's such an addictive drug. It's hard to beat that feeling of new goods and it can be so hard to have self-control. I think it's just a matter of patience and evaluating your impulses. I've been trying this "sleep on it" policy where if I try something on, I will physically force myself not buy it (right then and there) and take a day or two to just sleep on the thought. Nine times out of ten I completely forget about the item that I was so desperate to buy the day before. And then when you do feel like buying an item the next day, it will more amazing because all the thought you put into evaluating it makes the purchase feel more special 🙂

  • Lori October 2, 2011 at 4:12 am

Wow, I thought I was the only one who "pretend shops"! Glad to know I'm not alone 🙂 To take my mind off shopping I stay out of the stores in person & online, try not to read the Sunday store ads in the paper, delete all shopping newsletters with sales etc….and lots of sugar treats! Just kidding!

Ooh, love the orange in the scarf with the purple skirt. Nicely done.

I am a serial online cart filler. So guilty.

Love this look – especially that pretty scarf!

  • The Savvy Frugalista October 4, 2011 at 6:49 am

The Zara bag is so cute!

Girl, I'm on the same boat. I swipe my credit card like it's nothing. SO bad. There's this allure of online shopping. So accessible that I can do it from my phone while in class. THAT is bad.

I know what you mean with the fall list growing and growing! How do I curb my cravings? Just do not browse. I found that when I stopped "window shopping" or going to stores (even online ones), I didn't spend anything. But NEVER go on a shopping ban. Personally, it was bad for me. After the "ban" which didn't last long, I bought even more. Never restrict yourself, just limit yourself.

    Aren't you freaking gorgeous?

I am so happy you bought that skirt. It's perfect on you.

I want that scarf. Oh, and curb cravings? Ha, my visa curbs my cravings for me 😉

  • Jeannee October 5, 2011 at 7:44 am

I'm sitting here going LOL! about filling online shopping carts – sometimes ya know, you think you're the only one who does that 😉 Between that, and fashion blogs, like yours, and YouTube, that's how I satisfy my cravings!

  • Meanz (Koi Story) October 5, 2011 at 10:36 pm

You have gorgeous hair! I also adore your pretty scarf and that bag is so cute! I feel the same way about how the less money I have the more I want to spend!

  • Elizabeth October 7, 2011 at 6:02 pm

I'm so glad to see that I'm not the only one with a shopping addiction! Love those booties – did you get them at the Granville St. UO? Hmm, wonder if they're still on sale? 🙂
