almost declared a state of emergency this morning when i reached for my precious coffee, only to find we were out. luckily we had one disc of espresso left, which forced me to go old school and heat some milk on the stove. my friends taught me a delicious trick, to add nutella to the milk while it heats. so yes, i am currently enjoying a nutella latte, your jealousy is completely understandable.
yesterday i received a very sweet comment about my old writing style. someone had gone back and read my entire blog (almost 4 years worth, good on ya) and asked why i don’t write like i used to. and the truth is, that i miss the way i used to write. i was honest, candid, funny even…very carrie bradshaw. i suppose since my readership has grown and i actually know people read this (including my parents..hi mom, hi dad!), i shy away from oversharing and storytelling. but, anonymous commenter has me thinking about how to incorporate the old with the new and find a healthy balance. people have since pointed out that it’s natural to evolve as a person and a writer, but for all the times lately that i’ve sat staring blankly at a computer screen at a loss for words, this just might be the solution i was looking for.
so last night, instead of brainstorming post ideas, i found myself immersed in photo shop, downloading new fonts, and ultimately creating a new logo. been extra inspired by cocoa and hearts lately, her art is so beautiful, but i am especially drawn to her use of colour. it’s actually this painting that helped create my new blog concept. a definite work in progress that kept me up until all hours of the night! hope you like it, any design suggestions are mucho appreciated.
Umm love this! You look good girl! And I know what you mean about writing, it can be tricky sometimes! Love the new logo!

Love this, you look lovely!
I completely know what you mean about writing, sometimes I feel myself refraining from delving into details. Your blog is great, love reading it!

Adore the outfit & your new banner. Super pretty!! As for insomnia, oh man – you & me both. I've been up since 3am, it hurts. Aw, what an awesome comment to receive from a reader. I love the way you write!! 😉 V
It's funny that you mention the way your writing has changed. I used to write a lot a few years before I started my blog. I thought, after I make a blog I can write about fashion and what I'm wearing. Once I started up, my writing became nonexistent. I felt awkward sharing personal tidbits of my life, so I didn't. Instead, I now write about things that impact all of us. I throw in my opinion into the mix and that allows me to open up with ease.
Your outfit is beautiful, by the way. I love that hue on you. And your glasses are such a great touch to this look 🙂

It is a difficult balance to figure out how much to share, what's appropriate, what's not. What's interesting, what's not. But you've been doing this for a while, and have a loyal following, I think people are just as interested in you, and they are in what you wear – probably more so. Overshare kid, we're interested. 🙂

I looooooooooooove the new logo. So cute 🙂
You don't have to share eeeeverything. But, write whatever and however makes you happy. We're not here to be hard on you 🙂
I liked your old style writing too. I like your outfit posts for sure … maybe a little of both 🙂
Alicia,
I'm glad you wrote a post acknowledging this. like that commenter, I too miss your old style of blogging. but don't get me wrong, I still read your blog and enjoy it! it's just different now. I hope to see you incorporate more of that old style again. however I do understand treating a medium of expression differently when you are conscious about your readership. I'm sure whatever you will end up writing will be great though.
Love the new banner Alicia! Love Cocoa and Hearts too, great inspiration!
xo
Blogs are interesting because they allow us to see how we've evolved (at least Internet-wise) and I totally understand what you mean about changing readership being an affecting factor. Love your new logo, Alicia, and that teal blazer is great!
xo, alison*elle
gorgeous blazer!!!
I love what you've done with the place 🙂 Seriously, the new banner looks amazing – and so do you, of course; that turquoise blazer takes every look to a new level of awesomeness.
As far as the writing is concerned, I think we all evolve as bloggers and our style changes as time goes on. I'm a relatively reserved person, so I've never shared too many personal details on my blog – you never know who might read them! I do always enjoy reading them from other people, but I don't think they make or break a blog. I keep coming back for the pretty pictures 🙂
xox,
Cee
Really love the new logo – haven't seen anything like before. Very refreshing and awesome!
The outfit you're wearing is great as well. Especially that blazer caught my eye… such an amazing color!
As for the writing… I think I've been reading your blog for a year now. I started reading it while still living in the Netherlands and planning my move the Vancouver 😉 I always enjoy reading your posts and think you put a good amount of personality in it. But, since you're advertising your previous writing style as "very Carrie Bradshaw", I'll make sure to check out the archive!

And this outfit is beautiful…love how you're always able to transition through different looks but manage to keep your cool West Coast chic (I patented the term btw…). Beautiful as always pally!

I finished all three books already. I took my time with Hunger Games, because I didn't want it to end. But as soon as it did, I haaaad to get Catching Fire and that took me 3 days to finish. Then Mockingjay took me only 2 days. I flew through it. I wish I hadn't, because now I'm being incredibly impatient for the release of the movie. Soooo obsessed.
Hi Alicia!
I love the new logo! The colors look very cute on your blog. I really like coco and hearts too, her paintings are adorable. Hopefully one day I can get one, they sell out pretty fast.

I love the changes you're making to the blog. The new logo is amazing and I wouldn't change a thing about it. The script for body font was a bit harder to read though. Like many others, I'm here for more than the pictures 🙂
What a great blazer!! The colour is absolutely amazing, and it looks forward to spring. The styling is so effortlessly chic and grunge at the same time. Wonderful!

I've noticed that after some time and success bloggers can manage to lose their own voice in their posts, but it makes sense if you are trying to be more aware of what you are saying. I'm sure you can find a nice balance of both though!

The sun’s ultraviolet rays are most damaging between 10am and 2pm. Even under overcast skies, we should protect our eyes, as the rays of the sun do pass through clouds. And when under a shade, we should still wear sunglasses, because UV rays are reflected by sand and water.
