Layering.  This is just one of many reasons why I freaking love autumn.  All the possible combinations of stacking your favourite clothing pieces on top of each other while still trying to maintain a relatively flattering silhouette.  So much cozy styling fun!  Since I’ve been cooped up at home and Pinning all day long, I saved some inspiration from my Simple + Chic // Outfits To Recreate board.  This is my favourite way to bookmark looks that I want to wear at some point and can be quite a saviour in those “what the heck am I going to wear?!” moments!  Are we following each other on Pinterest?  If not, we should be!

Below are a few unique ways to layer pieces that you might even already have in your closet!  I’m definitely going to be giving these a try this season.

TURTLENECK + DENIM JACKET + DUSTER COAT + DISTRESSED SKINNIES + CHELSEA BOOTS

I love the idea of getting extra wear out of my denim jackets through the fall and into winter.  The slimming lines of a fitted turtleneck and skinny jeans pair well with an oversized jean jacket and duster coat.  Alternatively, I think an unbuttoned chambray blouse and/or a cocoon coat would provide you with a very similar outcome if that’s all you have at home.  A chelsea or tall boot look great with this, though a white sneaker and baseball cap could easily dress this down, if temperatures allow it, of course.  This is one of my favourites of these looks, I’m going to be attempted this one very soon!

BUTTONED BLOUSE + SWEATER + CROPPED COAT + CULOTTES + PUMPS

This look is all about balance, but I really like the concept.  I always thought that a cropped or tight fitting blouse was the only way to style culottes, but it’s quite the opposite, as I learned with this outfit. I think the key is to find a button up blouse that isn’t too long, but that can still peek through the bottom of a shorter sweater.  I’d also probably source a sweater that isn’t too heavy and then a shorter blazer or coat as shown.  Pointed toe pumps are the perfect finishing touch because they’ll give the illusion of longer legs, which is so necessary when sporting such billowy trousers!  What do you think, would you dare try it?!

I recently purchased a funnel neck sweatshirt at Winners and don’t know how I lived beforehand.  It’s an athleisure staple and I love the look of a thin quilted vest overtop.  The ultimate in comfort and functionality, this could take you to and from your workout class, on a dog walk, or even just running errands on a rainy weekend!

STRIPED TEE  + LEATHER JACKET + WINTER COAT + DISTRESSED DENIM + LOAFERS

For some reason, I always forget that my precious faux leather jackets can also be used for fall/winter layering.  A timeless striped top and slim dark denim make this twist on the classics a very simple one to copy.  As the weather gets colder and loafers aren’t an option unless you want your ankles to freeze, I think this would look great with a pointed chelsea boot.  Don’t forget the red lip for a pop of colour!

Perfect time to still use these tips before it really gets cold up in the north. layering always beats one large jacket in fashion.
