Same old Seattle? Think again, Bellevue is where it’s at!
Driving across the border to neighbouring Washington has always felt familiar. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, the Evergreen State has the comforts of home, but with an American twist. Despite my love for the area, I realized that I really haven’t explored much beyond downtown Seattle, The Gorge in George, and the views along the never ending I-5 en route to Portland. It’s now top of my local travel list to explore beautiful Washington and discover new gems, like Bellevue!
A few weeks back, my BFF Jessica and I embarked on a girl’s weekend in Bellevue. It was her first time away from her baby overnight and it was just so special for both of us to be able to wine and dine, kid-free. We simply fell in love with the area and I’m already planning to return in December. You’ll find out why at the end of the post, but in the meantime, here are our top 5 reasons to visit Bellevue, WA. If you’d like, I’ve also put together a free printable Bellevue Travel Guide
1. The Shopping Is Incredible
Even though Vancouver is just a few hours away, being across the border means access to shops that we don’t have at home. I had great luck at Nordstrom Rack, as you do, and always love getting the chance to check out Macy’s, The Container Store, and World Market. We had a spectacular time at The Shops at The Bravern. It’s something you absolutely have to experience if you’re in Bellevue, such a gorgeous way to browse your favourite luxury brands.
2. Wine Country Is 15 Minutes Away
Just a short uber ride away is Woodinville Wine Country, which houses over 130 wineries and tasting rooms aka wine heaven! We spent an entire day bopping around to some different spots, tasting wines from Warr-Kings Wines, Patterson Cellars, Love That Red Winery, Guardian Cellars, and Novelty Hill Januik. Also loved paid a visit to Willows Lodge while we were in the area. Seems like a super cozy accommodation, perfect for a fall/winter stay!
3. There’s Good Food Around Every Corner
I think I’m still working off the food and drink we indulged in! We had some truly spectacular meals while in Bellevue and we barely even scratched the surface of their restaurant scene. These crazy delicious milkshakes with banana and Nutella (!!!) are from the brand new Sugar Factory location at The Bravern. Had such a fun atmosphere there and I can’t wait to go back to try more from their expansive menu. We had a great lunch at Purple Cafe and an impromptu brunch with my cousin and his wife (who are also located in Vancouver and just so happened to be in Bellevue for the first time the same weekend as u) at Lot No.3. Jess and I had a fabulous dinner at Wild Ginger (an old WA favourite) and delicious pizzas one cold and rainy evening at VIVO 53. Also, restaurants in the USA do the most over the top amazing desserts, remember to leave room post meal for a sweet treat!
4. The Impeccable Accommodation Options
Okay, real talk, if you stay downtown in a big city like Seattle, prices are insane. I don’t even want to tell you what we paid last time we were there. Bellevue is going to be my new accommodation secret when visiting Seattle (and by secret, I mean that I’m sharing it with all of you as well). I can’t believe we lucked out and got to stay at the brand new AC Hotel by Marriott in downtown Bellevue. It was central, easily accessible, and a truly comfortable and chic spot to call home for the weekend.
5. Everything Is Walkable
Staying right near Bellevue Square was great because we just walked to all the shopping and restaurants. It was so nice to leave the car at the hotel the whole time. Apparently in that same area, they put on something called Snowflake Lane around the holidays, which looks like lots of festive fun. They even have snowfall! I love the idea of Christmas shopping around Snowflake Lane to get in the holiday spirit!
