Two days after the wedding, we sat out on the deck of our Whistler mini-moon accommodation. I opened up my Rifle Paper Co. notebook and removed the cap from my black Faber Castell Pitt pen. Nothing motivates me to write like a new pen and a fresh notebook. I’m a total stationary junkie. Adam poured us some glasses of wine and picked an Indie Spotify playlist. Despite our lingering fatigue, I insisted that we sit down together and take the time to jot down our very favourite memories from the wedding day. It’s so funny when these little moments are happening, because you feel like your mind could never possibly let go of these distinctly lovely scenes. It’s those little details though, that soon get muddled. And so, being me, I wanted to make sure we wrote it all down.
Now, I know that Shari and Mike are the best of the best, but I sure was over the moon when we got our photos back and they literally captured exactly what we loved about the weekend. And so, I must credit them for this post, because without Shari and Mike, these 15 points would simply be written down in a notebook that I probably wouldn’t look at for 10 years.
You should first check out our rehearsal dinner and, of course, our wedding day. If you’ve already completed your required reading, then without further ado (yeah, I don’t think I say that irl…), here are our 15 favourite wedding memories:
1. Enjoying a peaceful rainy morning at The Old Vineyard.
2. The first look because keeping the dress a secret for a year and a half was truly a struggle.
3. Declaring our vows in front of our family and friends.
4. There was a very distinct point during cocktail hour when I ventured over to the barn. Colin Bullock was playing a beautiful rendition of Vance Joy’s song Riptide, and I scanned the room to see the entire two years of planning come to life, our happy guests mingling and laughing, and I honestly thought my heart might burst.
5. When we achieved, after many tries, a successful Vanity Fair style group photo.
6. When Sweet Caroline came on during dinner and everyone broke out into song.
7. When the clouds lifted and Mount Currie looked glorious.
8. When Adam cried for the first time in 20 years and made everyone else shed a tear.
9. When I put on red lipstick, threw my hair in a top knot, and put on my leather jacket. It was completely unplanned, but I wanted to be comfortable and feel like myself!
10. When one of our groomsmen split his pants.
11. When all the gals who were at my Vancouver stagette busted out a choreographed Beyonce ‘Flawless’ routine like a scene right out of a chick flick!
12. When Mike, one of our wedding photographers, blew people’s minds with his incredible breakdancing and everyone’s obsession with him reached peak levels.
13. Actually, every second of that packed dance floor.
14. When my dad had McDonald’s nuggets and burgers delivered. Classic Wildawg.
15. When Adam and I accidentally ended up being the last two people at the farm with no way of getting home (it’s a long story) and Shari and Mike went ABOVE AND BEYOND and came back to pick us up. It was the perfectly ridiculous way to end the night.
All photos by Shari and Mike. Big thanks to everyone who partied with us and for everyone cheering us on from afar. We could definitely feel the love xoxo
